Grandmother’s Dress

This little dress belonged to my grandmother Minnie Pitts Powell. Her mother Lula Wright Pitts made the dress for (her youngest ) Minnie. It is made with light cotton and lace.

Up close.

we have a cupboard in our house and it's filled with all the old things nice. We rarely open it but it brings sweet nostalgia for my mum and grandmother and an excitement for me .

Hi Teresa .. how fantastic that you still have her dress - that must be really special. Then you've obviously some history too that can be left for family or the local museum perhaps ..

So good you've managed to look after the dress so well - the workmanship looks quite beautiful ...

Great to see and thanks for sharing .. Hilary

That's awesome! Alas we have virtually no family heirlooms in my family. My mother was big on purging things.

Looks like it is in pristine shape too

Cool blog, and really lovely dress. Alas, the few things we might have had from my grandmothers' early life are lost and scattered. Glad you came by my blog so I found yours!

I had a dress like that from my grandmother, too. I don't what happened to it, which makes me sad. Thank you for sharing your memories on this great blog.

Amazing it's survived that long.

It's great that you kept it for all of these years.

This post makes me long a little for the past, in a daydreamy, nostalgic kind of way! :) Such a beautiful treasure from long ago.

That's a lovely dress, and how special to have it to treasure. The most fragile old thing I have is a primitive antique quilt. I'm afraid to put it on display, especially with a cat in the house, so I periodically take it down, look at it, and then refold or re-roll it to make sure no permanent creases form.

Visiting from A/Z; how neat to have the dress of your grandmother's from when she was a young girl! And what a darling picture of her in a different dress! I don't have anything from either one set of my grandparents, nor really knew any of them since 3/4 of them died before I was born, so I can imagine you do enjoy being the custodian of love and craft!

Enjoy the rest of the challenge!

Such a lovely dress. I can't image making something that looks so delicate. You have a wonderful treasure there in so many ways.

That's impressive that your family has held on to the dress for this long. It's nice to have family treasures like that.

My grandmother made all of her own clothes and I still have some of them! I can't wear them, but I have them! Happy A to Z!
