Wonderings

I’ve been told a few times, I think too much. But honestly this must have come from my rural childhood where I had to think up things to do. I had to use my imagination. Even today, I continue to wonder and think about everything. I love that about me...that I’m a thinker.

Here were some of my thoughts:

I wondered, as I played with Barbie in the mid 1960’s, if I would “look” like her when I grew up. I don't. I hated when they changed the Barbie body to look more realistic more mainstream. Really, what girl wants to dream of looking realistic and mainstream? Not me. I wanted to look like Barbie. I thought my big busted, small waisted, dark haired Barbie was perfect.

As a rural kid, I thought it was ridiculous that I was sent to the principal’s office in second grade for talking too much in class. I thought it was cruel to ask us to raise our hand to ask or answer questions, but, we couldn’t ask or answer questions of our classmates, in the middle of class. I thought this was a bit restrictive.

As a child, I didn’t think I would live to the ripe old age of 16. I mourned this thought often because I wanted to get my driver’s license. I wanted to drive. Then I didn’t think I would live to see the age of 30 and wrote my husband and children letters of appreciation and love. I didn’t think I would live to see the year 2000. So when I was in Dallas on New Year’s Eve 1999, I thought it might be my last night. (I also took flashlights in my luggage in case all electrical grids failed, remember that?) I guess you know by now that wasn’t my last night. I’m pretty sure I won’t live to be 100 years of age. And don’t try to talk me out of that one.

It may be true--I think too much.

If you are an over thinker, you are my friend and perhaps I will adopt you as family. Do you have an example of over thinking? I actually prefer to call it...a good imagination.

Oh I am so an over thinker...

I have a granddaughter who is just like you and I...she no longer wants to eat ice cream or drink milk becase we didnt ask the cows first...

her sincerity is touching and amazing. It also makes me pause and take a deep breath and reach for my patience since we live on a dairy...

Hi Teresa .. I must have been like you - but I was stopped in my tracks from asking .. and it took me years to come out of it! Crazy .. now I question all and look everywhere .. but kids are great with their perceptive straight forward thoughts ..

Have a great weekend .. Hilary

Indie, I too have a granddaughter like me. She is very imaginative and questions.

Hilary, It's difficult being a child when adults try and squash that thinker spirit. My folks were very good about allowing me my thoughts and questions, however.

I think youngsters today will be lacking some when they grow up because they don't have to use their imagination to play. They have too many toys and electronics. There is no pretend in their lives. You don't think too much. You just have a vivid imagination. BTW, my Barbie looked just like only it had blonde hair.

My husband gets frustrated with me because I ponder and wonder... Makes us better writers. Don't worry, Teresa, you're great the way you are. Keep thinking & maybe we'll compare notes at 100!

I have always been an extreme thinker, sometimes to my own hindrance. I used to think up reasons not to do things that I probably should have done. But yes, my imagination always has, and still does run wild.

I used to always say that I was going to live to 150. I was much younger and healthier then. I not going to say it won't happen, but it seems unlikely.

I'm a huge "what-if-er". What if you get to scout camp and don't have extra shoes. You step in some muck, then have to wear stinky, muddy, muck shoes the rest of the week and end up with trench foot. My kids say I worry too much. hmm.

I think too much as well. I find that I'm going through a stage of reminiscing. I like your rural posting!
